One of the world's oldest and most famous pilgrimages is the Camino de Santiago across northern Spain, from the French border to the cathedral of St. James in Compostela. A mystically transformative experience for many over the last thousand years, this journey is the inspiration for "Songs of Pilgrimage." Maestro Krueger has collected choral music by composers who lived and worked along the route of the pilgrimage, and, together with atmospheric readings about the Camino, creates a musical accompaniment to the trek.
The concert features Spanish composers from the Middle Ages to the early 19th century who would have been familiar with the pilgrims' journey through towns and cities in search of spiritual enlightenment. This concert was presented in the autumn of 2019 to such enthusiastic response that it will comprise the material for St. Martin's next recording project. Whether you were among those who heard it in 2019 or not, make sure to hear it this April!
