Back in the early ’90s, when the troubled Pic’s Corner Bar finally gave up the ghost, it was the worst neighbor in a not very good neighborhood.
But that was then. Now, the empty Pic’s building stands in the middle of a stretch of West 32nd Avenue that’s one of the hottest dining areas in town — two blocks away from LoHi SteakBar, at 3200 Tejon Street, across the street from the new Highland Tap & Burger, at 2223 West 32nd, and just down the street from Duo, at 2413 West 32nd.
So Pic’s occupies a prime piece of real estate in hot, hot Highland — one that even includes parking.
But don’t get too excited about the sign that’s been posted on the graffiti-tagged building — not yet. That’s not an application for a new alcohol license, or a demolition permit. It’s simply a notice that the owners want a permit to construct a new fence. Still, it’s a sign of life on this long-neglected corner.
