Since the only signage outside Meadowlark Kitchen is the logo for Meadowlark Bar, it’s easy to get the impression that this restaurant that opened on upper Larimer Street in the fall of 2014 exists as an appendage, a place to go for grub when you’re listening to music. But aside from a small stake in the business held by the landlord, the two are separate entities, destinations in their own right. The menu is short, just a dozen or so dishes, with an emphasis on reimagined American classics such as chicken nuggets, chips and dip, and an outrageous burger made of chuck, heart and neck, piled high with spicy candied bacon, an onion ring, a poached egg and creamy Irish cheddar sauce. But friendly finger food isn’t all that Meadowlark Kitchen has to offer. Other plates would be right at home in restaurants on the tonier end of Larimer, including numerous vegetarian appetizers and entrees that showcase chef-owner Joshua Bitz’s love of vegetables.
