This venerable neighborhood joint serves up a long list of diner favorites alongside a slew of American and Mexican comfort-food breakfast dishes. Everything is scratch-made, so you can’t go wrong with the chicken-fried steak, omelets stuffed with chorizo or gyros, or just about anything smothered in Newbarry’s thick green chile or rich and spicy chili con carne (reportedly the original Coney Island recipe). We like breakfast with endless coffee refills and crisp-edged country potatoes, but dinner items like the prime rib have been bringing back customers since 1967.
