5. "Golden Ticket," by Highasakite

Okay, this is a bit of a guilty-pleasure song, but we just can't deny a proper high — and it's got a good beat.

4. "So High," by Motet

Denver-based Motet rolls up an instant classic about "the haze of greener gardens" here in WeedStream's beloved Colorado.

3. "Let the Chalice Blaze," by Thievery Corporation

The only corporation that WeedStream counts as real people, the Thieves gave us this holiday treat — a juicy (almost) instrumental that is impossible not to love.

2. "Shine," by Mondo Cozmo

Everybody on your feet and start waving your hands in the air: This is the new weed anthem for the ages. You're likely to hear this on a radio station soon, but remember where you heard it first.

1. "Frankie Sinatra," by Avalanches

By far our favorite song of 2016, weed song or not.  If you see only one music video from 2016, this is the one to see. It's not only a song about getting high (in so many ways), but probably a song you have to be high to love. WeedStream loves it, all right, enough to make it #1 on our Top 10 Weed Songs of 2016.
KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Kate McKee Simmons interned at the National Catholic Reporter, was a reporter for the New York Post, and spent a brief stint in Israel learning international reporting before writing for Westword.
