Update: Congratulations to David Fender! He and a guest will be our guests at the show tomorrow night.
Gregory Alan Isakov has made quite a name for himself since first making his way down from the People's Republic some years back. Although he's been headlining rooms like the Boulder Theater and the Fox Theatre in his hometown for sometime now, he's steadily built up a loyal following in Denver playing intimate, well-received shows at places like the Meadowlark and the Walnut Room, which has allowed him to move on to performing at the Bluebird, where he's due tomorrow night with Eleanor, Danielle Ate the Sandwich and our own Andy Thomas. If you haven't heard it yet, his latest effort, This Empty Northern Hemisphere, which features Brandi Carlile, is just an absolute gem (give it a listen after the jump). The Indigo Girls and Ani DiFranco are fans of the guy. And so are we. Isakov is still one of our favorite singer-songwriters. Want to see the show? We'd love for you and a guest to be our guests. We've got a pair of tickets up for grabs. Drop us a line for your chance to win, and we'll pick a winner later this afternoon.
Keep Westword Free... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Denver with no paywalls.
