The Swayback Free Show at Larimer
Feeling broke? So are we. But fear not, because the Larimer Lounge has your back. Tonight stop by the free PBR Art Show featuring the Swayback, MANCUB and Total Ghost. While we're not sure exactly what PBR art will produce, chances are you can find some sweet young thing to buy you one while you enjoy the crafty tunes from some of our best local bands. The show starts at 9 p.m. and is 21+.
Seriously, who doesn't love strange dance-off tunes about older lovers and setting fire to Taco Bells? Though Electric Six seems to be on constant tour, and frequently stops through to boogie, that's no reason to not catch their show if you've never seen it. Check out the sexy weirdness at the Bluebird Theater Friday with openers Kitten, Mark Mallman, and School Knights. Show starts at 9 p.m., is all ages and tickets are $15.
Wolves in the Throne Room at Rhino
If you feel like stretching your musical chops this weekend, look no further than Olympia, Washington's Wolves in the Throne Room, playing tonight at Rhinoceropolis. Merging a naturalist's yearning with a savage's blood lust, this tribal assault will challenge your senses and thoughts on black metal. The show starts at 9 p.m., is all ages and only $10.
Kissing Party with Amazing Twin and Shaky Molars at the Hi-Dive
It doesn't get more deliciously indie/alt-pop than at the Hi-Dive tonight, with The Kissing Party CD Release Party. Also featuring local underground dreamers Amazing Twin and Shaky Molars, the show is guaranteed to be laced with locals-only coziness and some solid, good-for-the-soul local music. This one is highly recommended for the weary at heart. Doors are at 8:00 p.m., show is 18+ and admission is $7.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1
The Rapture with Snake Rattle Rattle Snake
If you feel like cutting loose, look no further than dance-punk outfit The Rapture, coming to the Marquis Theater Saturday. Pumped up with raucous beats and ADHD guitar work, Luke Jenner's wild tenor voice plainly dares you to not spaz out. Couple that with always-fantastic locals Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, and you'll leave the theater covered in sweat, riding that adrenaline high. Doors are at 8:00 p.m., show is all ages, and tickets are $20, $25 the day of.
Also competing for your rockin' body on the dance floor is Ladytron, hallucination-inducing trance-dance that's sure to make any hipster admit to their more rave-y days. This is the kind of sexed-up show that doesn't exactly encourage glow sticks, but based on their albums, we would expect a killer light show. Check them out with Geographer and SONOIO at The Ogden for $31.50, show stars at 8:00 p.m. and is all ages.
For a down and dirtier Saturday evening, we highly suggest swinging by the Hi-Dive for local band Sun Red's CD release party, with kick-ass guests Fingers of the Sun, Colfax Speed Queen, and Safe Boating Is No Accident. The gig is 18+ and a must-see for local scene followers. Tickets are only $7 and the shindig starts at 9:30 p.m. (Doors at 9)
One may wonder, Oh Good Friday, why oh why are you such a pansy? Well wonder no more. You can find the harder among us checking out Arch Enemy with guests DevilDriver, Skeletonwitch, Chthonic, and Arcanium at The Gothic this Saturday. Featuring five face-melting metal acts for $23 ($25 day of show) is a steal, so we suggest showing up when doors open at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy the mayhem. Show is all ages.

Dick Dale w/ Fingers of the Sun
Can't get enough? Need a show to end the weekend with a bang? Then head back down to The Gothic and watch guitar legend Dick Dale show you why at 74, he's still the most badass tremolo picker there is. The man may be gettin' up in years, but he doesn't intend on backing down one bit. And the local bonus? If you didn't catch Hi-Dive, Kissing Party, Amazing Twin, Fingers of the Sun, at the night before, you can catch them opening up here. Doors are at 7:00 p.m., the show is 16+ and tickets are $20.
Larimer Lounge Presents: Don't Get Shot
By Sunday, no one could really blame you for being tired of guitars. If that's the case, then hop on down to the Larimer Lounge and check out Big Wheel Electro Soul with GirlGrabbers, DJ Dozen, The AV Club (feat. Turner Jackson) and Heirs to the Game. This sweet lineup of hip-hop funkiness is sure to get you back in the groove for another week and maybe, just maybe, make you forget that Monday's around the corner. Doors are at 6:00 p.m., show is at 7:00 and tickets are $10.
If you're in Boulder Sunday night, ignoring your homework or otherwise hanging around, then why not trot on down to the Fox and catch Circa Survive? These pensive alt-rockers from Pennsylvania range from the immediate and intense to the slow and subtle, with the college-age demographic in mind. Opening acts are Maps & Atlases and States. Doors are at 6:30, show is all ages and tickets are $20, $22 if you're under 21.
