SAT | LOO & PLACIDO at NORAD | 10/19/13 Artists like Danger Mouse and Z-Trip have brought the art of the mash-up to the forefront, but few take it to the extremes of Loo & Placido (aka Laurent Lupidi and Jeremy Johnson, respectively), who each played in assorted French bands before teaming up to create sounds that tweak your mind and rock your body. The two reach into the far corners of assorted genres, from rock, hip-hop and disco to funk, dancehall and pop, blending the music with any number of electronic sounds made with machines, keyboards and live vocals for a mixed-up set that's different every night. Their mixes have even been accepted into the mainstream, gaining attention from such high-profile stars as Madonna. BRO SAFARI @ BETA | FRI, 10/18/13 When Diplo's Mad Decent spin-off label Jeffree's dropped the Bro Safari single "Da Worm" in 2011, it brightened the spotlight already shining on Nicholas Weiller. Bro Safari might be a relatively new project, but Weiller, who currently performs under that name, earned his stripes as a DJ and producer with years of bass-heavy joints as Knick, and as half of collaborative projects Evol Intent and Ludachrist. Having put his stamp on mash-ups, glitchy downtempo and hard, dark drum-and-bass, Weiller is focusing his latest evolution on moombahton, along with occasional dalliances with the emerging sub-subgenre of trapstep. After spending the summer on the Bros Gone Wild Tour with Baltimore party veteran Tittsworth, Bro Safari will deliver a set that will probably jump styles like a mad Double Dutcher. MORD FUSTANG @ BETA | SAT, 10/19/13 Mord Fustang has carved out his niche with remixes of popular American Top 40 songs. Earning a nod last year as Beatport's breakthrough artist of the year, Mord Fustang has steadily released a growing catalog of electro-house bangers that explore the depths of the genre with a modern microscope. Signed to Germany's Plasmapool imprint, Mord Fustang recently dropped a complex, multi-layered track called "Taito" that would be equally as potent whether played at the largest massives or rocking the smallest dance floor.
