Chess Pieces Book Release Party
April 20, Illuzion Glass Gallery, 238 Broadway
For those of you functional-glass-art aficionados, Hitman Glassworks from California debuts its newest project. The team's members got some of the best glass artists in the nation to help them put together a book,
Chess Pieces, featuring hand-blown glass art styled with a chess theme in mind. Hitman is usually up-front with what is going on in its labs, posting updates and photos online of pipe progression in real-time. But with this project, the staff has been tight-lipped about the content and pieces, choosing Denver as the site to launch it all.
High Times Medical Cannabis Cup
April 21-22, Exdo Event Center, 1399 35th Street
Back again for the second year in a row, the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup takes over Exdo for the weekend. Tickets are $40 for single day tickets or $60 for the two-day package that comes with a gift bag and T-shirt, re-entry to the cup is allowed. Speakers and topics range from cultivation seminars to political talks and even a hash discussion in which yours truly will be participating (fully disguised, of course).
You don't need to be a medical marijuana patient to attend this event/convention, though you may need a card to access a more private and patient-friendly area not attached to Exdo in any way, shape or form (hint-hint, nudge-nudge). Awards for best indica, sativa, hybrid, edible and several other categories will be given out at 7 p.m. Sunday.
