An Aurora Police Department release about the incident reads in part, "According to a witness, the male victim was lying in the left through lane when an eastbound white Suburban or Tahoe type SUV ran over him. The SUV continued a short distance to the east, made a u-turn, drove slowly back past the scene and then left the area westbound. The SUV was driven by an unknown person and there was possibly a Hispanic female passenger."
A witness saw the Texas license plate on the vehicle in question. This evidence likely helped inspire the thus-far-unnamed female driver and a female passenger to turn themselves in to authorities. The APD quotes them as saying the person they struck was laying in the roadway; at first, they reportedly thought they hit a "bundle," and when they realized differently, they fled out of fear.
