What led to this public display of disaffection? A probable cause statement on view below quotes Sanchez as saying he'd seen Escobar making a phone call early on April 12. He assumed she was talking to someone named Salvador, and the idea of this conversation clearly made him unhappy -- because he grabbed her phone on his way to work with the idea of checking it for calls.
The phone log showed several calls from a "Claudia" -- but instead of being reassured, Sanchez decided this was a code name for Salvador. So upon his return home, he grabbed a ten-inch kitchen knife and headed toward Escobar. She immediately split through the patio door, but he caught up with her on the street and stabbed her more than five times.
Apparently, though, he was dissatisfied with the blade -- because he tossed it away and went back to the townhouse they shared and grabbed a knife he presumably liked better. But before he could try it out, Denver Police arrived. He quickly pocketed the knife, but the cops didn't have any trouble finding it after they ordered him to the ground.
By the way, Sanchez allegedly told police his intention was to kill Escobar. Unfortunately, he succeeded.

Her cause of death? Multiple stab wounds.
Marcelo Ochoa Sanchez was immediately busted on suspicion of committing this crime. Learn more from our earlier coverage below.
Original item, 7:05 a.m. April 13: Early yesterday morning, residents on the 5000 block of East Donald Avenue had a curbside seat for a homicide.
Marcelo Ocho Sanchez, 29, was arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman to death on the street in what Denver Police are describing as an act of domestic violence. And how.
The argument that led to bloodshed reportedly got underway in an apartment before spilling onto the roadway. The stabbing victim was still alive when emergency crews arrived, but later died at Swedish Medical Center.
Oh yeah: There were two children in the apartment. They're now in the custody of protective-services personnel -- which sounds safer than home.
