Calhoun: Wake-Up Call

Now in the center ring: two Senate candidate supporters

In this corner, Gary Hart, the former senator who turned out to be very prescient on terrorism, stumping for Michael Bennet: "My twelve years serving Colorado in the U.S. Senate provides a unique perspective in defining an effective senator. Like most Coloradans, I take very seriously who represents us in Washington, D.C.," he says in a fundraising pitch that arrived today. "I strongly support Senator Michael Bennet. And I feel so strongly about keeping him in the Senate that I'm organizing a group of fellow supporters to match your contributions to his campaign before the end of the year."

And in the other corner, Gayle Caplan, "Mother of the Candidate," pushing for Andrew Romanoff. "With your help," she says in an e-mail that arrived today, "we'll feed Andrew a decent meal, fatten him up, and put him in office. Click here, and I promise not to embarrass him again (until 2010)."

Give this round to Bennet -- and send Andrew's mom to the showers.
