Reader: You don't deserve respect if you've never shot a gun

We got a lot of interesting reaction to a post in which I shared my first-ever experience firing a gun, using an AR-15 at a local shooting range. Among those weighing in were gun owners with some very strong thoughts about people who criticize firearms without ever having firing one -- including this reader.
