We've now got the names of the pair involved, and one of them -- Michael Schreiber -- was actually 79 at the time of his death. His wife, Sandra Schreiber, is 69 and still alive, although in a great deal of trouble with the law. Upon her release from the hospital, she will be accused of murder. Details below.
As noted in a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office release authored by public information officer Mark Techmeyer, who spoke with us earlier about the case, deputies arrived at 7835 West Ontario Place at around 8:25 a.m. on May 13 to find a man now identified as Michael Schreiber lying on the front yard with a stab wound to the chest.
Inside, Sandra Schreiber was also suffering from a stab wound. They were both taken to Littleton Hospital, where Michael was pronounced dead a short time later.

Who stabbed who? According to Techmeyer, investigators have come to the conclusion that Sandra first used the knife on Michael, then on herself in what turned out to be a failed suicide attempt.
Because Sandra remains hospitalized, no mug shot of her has been taken. But Techmeyer reveals that once she's released, she will be booked into Jeffco jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
By the way, assorted online sources identify Sandra as the chief executive officer of Schreiber Enterprises, as well as Casino Tours International, both of which cite the Ontario Place address as their headquarters. However, a Yelp listing states that CTI had closed.
If it wasn't before, it certainly is now.

Since last Monday, we've published five new items or updates about homicides in the metro area, most recently on Thursday, in a piece about the killing of Francis Reade, a homeless woman in a wheelchair who police believe Shawn Lopez stabbed to death, possibly just for the thrill of it.
Now comes news of another stabbing with an even higher body count: one dead, one severely injured.

The details? Jeffco Sheriff's Office spokesman Mark Techmeyer tells us that deputies responded to a home at 7835 West Ontario Place after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor at around 8:25 a.m.
The reason for the alert: A man staggered out of the home with blood on his shirt and collapsed on the lawn.
According to Techmeyer, officers soon entered the home and discovered a female also suffering from stab wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital; the man has been declared dead.
Techmeyer says that deputies have responded to the address before, on reports of incidents that include domestic violence. The couple who lived there were in their sixties, he notes.
At this point, authorities are not looking for any suspects. That said, it's too early to confirm whether one of the individuals stabbed the other, then turned the knife on him or herself, murder-suicide-style, or if the pair stabbed each other, with the male half of the couple perishing from his wounds.
