Now that we won't be spending the week buying our Birdman hair gel and getting our support-the-Nuggets tats, it's time to get back to reality. And there's plenty of that.

Today marks the start of Denver's "Home Renovation Bonanza," a two-week period in which homeowners and licensed contractors can get remodeling/repair project permits free from the city, saving $20; find more details at www.denvergov.org. Sorry, you don't get to skip the paperwork or the wait at the Wellington E. Webb Building. But you should be able to find plenty to read while you wait: From June 1 through June 15, you can vote for your favorite out of 27 possible candidates for the city's next "One Book, One Denver" selection. Learn more at www.OneBookOneVote.org. Except not yet; there seems to be some problem with the site this morning.

Not to worry; there's lots more to do in town this week.

The Truth&Rights Collective, a Denver-based cooperative dedicated to progressive artistic, social and political thought, debuts The Volume, its online quarterly magazine, today; it follows yesterday's Truth&Rights Symposium. For more info, check out www.truthandrights.org.

The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition will launch its Reform Immigration FOR America campaign today at 11 a.m. on the West Steps of the State Capitol. Find more information here.

The Urban Land Institute will explore the development of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus at the former Fitzsimons, 13120 East 19th Avenue, tomorrow afternoon. The details can be located at www.colorado.uli.org.

The state will kick off its second annual Summit on Children, Youth and Families tomorrow, June 2; it runs through Friday at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center in Summit County. For the complete schedule, go to www.cosummit.com. Here in Denver, Governor Bill Ritter will host a free help fair for working families on the east side of the State Capitol from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.

On June 3, the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless will host a one-day conference at the Colorado Convention Center exploring how community stakeholders can find solutions to homelessness; it runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can get more details from the coalition.

The 2009 Colorado Books Awards History finalists will read from their works at 6:30 p.m. June 3 at the Colorado Historical Society, 1300 Broadway. The event is free. The www.coloradohumanities.org site has more information.

The second annual Green Summit blooms on June 4 at the Millennium Harvest House, 1345 28th Street in Boulder; for more info, go to www.bcbr.com. Also in Boulder, the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society will host "Science of the Paranormal," a free lecture at 6 p.m. June 5 at the Hale Science Building at the University of Colorado campus. The info number is 720-496-8809.

And finally, proof that there are some happy endings. A lot of them, in fact. The Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine will host an IVF Baby Reunion from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 in the Great Hall of the Wildlife Experience, 10034 South Peoria in Parker. The CFFR has been ranked the number-one fertility center in the U.S., and ample proof of its success over the last twenty years should be on hand. For more info, go to www.ColoCRM.com.
