PJs & Eggs at Syrup, Toast, Breakfast on Broadway, Ralston Road Café, and EggCredible (Friday, a pair of pajamas to donate and the price of a meal) Craving pancakes in the evening? Eat breakfast for dinner tonight at five breakfast locations around town. In a benefit for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver, these daytime restaurants will be opening their doors at 5 p.m., and inviting people to come eat breakfast for dinner -- dressed in their pajamas. The only cost is the price of your meal and a pair of pajama pants to donate, and in return you'll get to dress silly in a restaurant, sing karaoke to the Incredible Edible Egg jingle, and go home with a dozen fresh eggs -- and the knowledge that you've helped a worthwhile charity.
Sticky Situation sticker art show at the Exdo Event Center (Friday, free) Get stuck on sticker art made by a talented crew of artists, including Kevin Daviet, Axel Geittmann and Sara Ford, and slapped on the bricks in the alley of the Exdo Event Center. There will be food trucks on hand, as well as beverages. But remember to bring your jacket, since this event is all outdoors.
Halloween Party & Young Frankenstein screening at the Dikeou Collection (Friday, $5) This Halloween party will be extra spooky, with the giant blowup pink bunnies at the Dikeou Collection looming over everything. Watch the Gene Wilder classic Young Frankenstein, dress up for the costume contest, buy $2 beer, and eat snacks while you browse one of Denver's finest private art collections. Put on by Metropolitan State University of Denver's BFA thesis class, this is sure to be one of the best early Halloween bashes in town.
Postscript: Writing After Contemporary Art at the MCA Denver (Friday, 10 cents) Though museum admission goes up to full-dollar amounts on regular days, at this opening reception you can see the MCA's newest exhibit for just for a dime. The exhibit focuses on the art of language, bringing the work of over fifty artists and authors together for a show that examines words. Ten pennies for your thoughts!Heritage Wool Weekend at Fancy Tiger (Friday-Saturday, free) The sheep are invading Fancy Tiger this weekend, with local farmers bringing their yarn knowledge and live sheep into the shop. Though the knitting classes cost more than $10, Jeane deCoster of Elemental Affects will give a free lecture Friday night on raising sheep and milling heritage wool, and the sheep will be in the shop to cuddle Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. See some cute lambs, learn about wool, and get ready to knit lots of scarves for fall.
Hoop Dreams at Super Ordinary Gallery (Saturday, free) You've probably seen artist Andrew Hoffman's design work, whether you realize it or not. The local illustrator and graphic designer has created pieces for everything from PBR to Flobots to Qdoba, as well as doing fine art of his own. Hoop Dreams is Hoffman's second solo show, "about that moment in life when youth begins to run away from you." Check out this prolific artist's newest work while you drink PBR at Super Ordinary.Flea Market & Garage Sale at Studio 12 Gallery (Saturday, free) Not only is this event free, but you could potentially even make some money at Studio 12, which is hosting a huge flea market and garage sale today. There's no cost to set up a table and no limit to the things you can sell, so clean out your closet and bring art supplies, clothing, furniture and weird knickknacks to sell -- and then pick up others' bizarre discarded items to replace them.
Art for Aurora at the University of Denver (Saturday, $10) Party for a good cause tonight at this benefit for victims and first responders of the Century 16 shooting. There will be art of all sorts on display, everything from graffiti art by Gamma Gallery, to music by guitarist Grace Cho, to breakdancing from Simply Breaks. It promises to be an evening full of interesting entertainment worth the price of admission -- with that money then going to a worthy cause.
Showga at the Mercury Cafe (Saturday, by donation) Showga, a unique donation yoga-class created by Piper Rose and the Denver Yoga Co-Op, kicks off today. Each class in the six-week series will feature live, non-traditional music scored by artists Micah Bontrager of The Haircut, Ester Hernandez of Astral Glamour, Jeremy Averitt of Princess Music, Kendall Perry and Biggawatt. Stretch your musical appreciation at the same time you stretch your body at an event that's open to all.
Festival of Scarecrows at Olde Town Square (Sunday, free) Get into the fall spirit today at Arvada's annual Festival of Scarecrows, which celebrates everything fun about autumn. Vote for your favorite scarecrow, watch some pumpkin contests, buy a pumpkin and take a hay ride around town for just the price of a canned food donation. There will also be a kids' costume parade, so you can really get into the Halloween mood as you watch all the adorable little witches and ghosts march down the street.
