10 Things to Do for $10 in Denver This Weekend (4 Free!), June 26-28

This weekend is going to go from 0 to 100 real quick with a vast array of festivals and events. Pack an extra water bottle because we're racing bikes, partying (so much partying), and laughing with and at comedians like summer is going to be over tomorrow. There's an overload of fun this weekend so check it all out on the Westword calendar and drop comments if we couldn't fit your event in this week. 

Final Friday Denver at RiNo District (4 p.m. Friday, $5)
If you're looking to spend an entire night in one part of town, here it is. More than twenty businesses will be taking part in the event, offering drink specials (many of them free) and discounts on everything from massages to concerts. There's also going to be plenty of street vendors serving up food and fashion to keep your senses on overload all night long. Check out the entire line-up here. 

Dan Asher Book Talk at Dikeou Collection (6 p.m. Friday, free)
The late Dan Asher might have had one of the coolest lives of all time. He was a photographer at CBGB, the famed NYC club, at its peak, ran the streets with Basquiat and had art exhibitions in the most well known galleries around the world. Asher passed away in 2010, but the new zingmagazine book, Far From the Madding Crowd: Perspectives on the Life and Work of Dan Asher, will lead to a lively discussion tonight with author Brandon Johnson, Dikeou Collection founder Devon Dikeou, Mark Sink, Adam Gildar and Dikeou Collection Director Saniego Sanchez. Learn all about Asher and his amazing life, and celebrate the release of zingmagazine issue #24 as well. After the discussion, a party will follow, complete with live music fueled by free tequila.

Denver Zine Fest at Denver Art Society (6 p.m. Friday-Sunday, free-$10)
If you're ever looking for a creative outlet, making a zine is a perfect way to start. All you need is some paper, an idea and you're good to go. Over the weekend check out what's happening in the zine culture, whether you're a seasoned vet or just dipping your toes in. On Friday night, the kick-off party includes some zine centric films; Saturday is the actual zine fest and after party, and it all wraps up with a pancake breakfast on Sunday. Explore a new side of life with these artists, writers and illustrators. 

Chrome Industries Grand Opening Denver at Chrome Hub Denver (7 p.m. Friday, free)
Chrome bags are the barometer of cool as far as backpacks are concerned. The brand started stitching the bags in Colorado some twenty years ago and is finally returning home with the addition of its newest shop on the corner of 15th and Market streets. To celebrate, they're throwing an Alley Cat race starting at Civic Center Park at 5 p.m. and wrapping up with a party at the shop. Welcome the shop to Denver with live tunes, booze and live t-shirt screen printing by Indy Ink to look hip for a Friday night.

The Underground Comedy Showcase w/ Adam Newman and Andy Sandford at The Soiled Dove Underground (8 p.m. Friday, $10)
Downtown has a bit of a stronghold on the comedy scene in this town, so it will be refreshing to get out to a new neighborhood to enjoy this new showcase full of laughs. They're kicking off the new show in a huge way with two headliners, Adam Newman and Andy Sandford as well as David Gborie and Scott Losse who also know their way around a joke.

Lipgloss 14th Anniversary with A Place to Bury Strangers DJ Set at Syntax Physic Opera (9 p.m. Friday, $8)
It's important to remember to drink plenty of water when you go to Lipgloss because the combination of dancing and heavy drinking can leave you feeling like you got ran over by a train. That being said, go have a good time and tell 'em happy birthday while twisting to whatever crazy tracks Oliver Ackermann of A Place To Bury Strangers is spinning.

Tickle Monster at Bug Theatre (10 p.m. Friday, $10)
The Fine Gentleman's Club has been steadily been providing this city with comedy every Wednesday at the Deer Pile, but now they're adding a new show to their repertoire, Tickle Monster, which kicks off tonight. Plus, add in the lineup from the Underground Comedy Showcase (mentioned above), and you get a double dose of rib ticklers.

South Platte RiverFest at on Little Raven (9 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, free)
Originally scheduled to be held in Confluence Park, the festival celebrating the river was moved to Little Raven Street between 15th and Elitch Circle because of, well, the river. If you haven't been down to Confluence Park lately, you should really check it out. Half the park is underwater thanks to recent storms, giving us a real taste of the power of nature. But over the next couple of days, we can celebrate the two bodies of water that wind their way through Denver by dipping our toes in, drinking craft beer and learning about the history of what are usually pretty tame beasts. Sand in the City at Ralston Park (12 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, free)
Bring the whole family out for a couple days in the sun, surrounded with giant sand sculptures. The food trucks and local artisans will be a plenty, and the booze shall flow heavily enough for you to want to live in one of the castles made of sand.

Denver Taco Festival at Glitterdome (12 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, $10/day)
They have festivals for everything, but the taco festival makes the most sense of all. Celebrate the thousands of ways there are to wrap some veggies or meat in a warm tortilla. Adding to the spice of the weekend will be chihuahua races, lucha libre wrestling, live music and all kinds of other activities. If you want to spend a little more money, you can enjoy tequila as well. Go back to work on Monday and tell the boss about the best taco you ever did have.
