10 Things to Do for $10 in Denver This Weekend (6 Free!), April 3-5

We made it to April, which means farmers' markets, outdoor movies and all those other summer activities will be here before you know it. In the meantime, though, there's plenty of other activities to fill your weekend. Head to the hills, chomp on some dills and get your Ziggy Stardust on for some thrills over the next couple of days. Springalicious Festival at Steamboat (Friday-Sunday, free)
Sometimes it's nice to to get out of the city and enjoy the spectacle of the Rocky Mountains. You can do that, and enjoy a host of free events, in Steamboat over the weekend and into next week. If you're cruising up on Saturday, catch The Motet, one of Denver's hottest funk bands, for a unique show. No need to jib the pow this weekend, it's a party.

From Fire to Art: Artists of the Denver Fire Department at Denver Firefighters Museum (Friday-Sunday, $6)
Calendars are apparently not the only thing firefighters can hang on a wall. Until May 30, stop by the Denver Firefighters Museum to take a special glance at what these brave men and women do when they're not getting cats out of trees and battling towering infernos. Much of the work will be for sale too, so support the organization that supports you. 

The Denver Collage Club at Robert Anderson Gallery (6 p.m. Friday, free)
The collage is a delicate art form. The juxtaposition of shapes, colors, images and blank space takes time and patience. Although it might seem easy to just throw stuff together, wait until you see what the Denver Collage Club is capable of — because it's not as easy as it looks. More than twenty artist will be featured in the show, some of them from among Westword's 100 Colorado Creatives, including Mario Zoots, Adam Milner and Mark Sink. You can chat with the artists at the opening reception a well.

The Pickle Jam at The Real Dill, 33 South Fox Street (6 p.m. Friday, free)
Pickles are so hot right now, and we're not just talking about the spicy ones. Welcome The Real Dill and RedCamper to the neighborhood at their open house tonight. The pickle producers, Elevation Organic Ketchup and Backyard Soda will offer samples, with the sounds of live music bouncing off food trucks while you sip free Odell beer. Check out the screenprint poster exhibit next door at Ink Lounge too, for a full food, beverage, sound and visual experience.

First Friday Film Night at Firehouse Art Center (7 p.m. Friday, free)
Eleven local filmmakers have been working tirelessly to showcase their experimental short films for you tonight at the Firehouse Art Center. Feast your eyes on things like two VCR's recording each other while nibbling on free popcorn and drinks. There's bound to be something to turn you on in these sixteen short films. Dreaming of You: The Selena Art Show at Chicano Humanities & Arts Council (7 p.m. Friday, free)
It's hard to believe Selena has been gone for twenty years now, but if you were a 90's child you know this song still goes. Thanks to Artist Rob Yancey, who has curated a show celebrating all things Selena including paintings and lowrider bikes. Join the opening celebrations tonight to pay homage to a Latina icon who not only gave us her gift of music, but empowered a new generation.

The Last Laugh First Friday Comedy Show at Aztlan Theatre (7:30 p.m. Friday, $10)
For comedians, history is an important aspect to the game. Comedians who get to play at places like the Apollo or the Improv remember and cherish moments like that. The Aztlan isn't as well known — and is mostly quiet these days — but over 88 years, it has hosted all kinds of legends. Tonight, comedians Andres Becerril, Abby Alt, Cory Heelie, Steffen Williamson, Matt Hunt, and Anthony Crawford will breath new life into the space at the inaugural Last Laugh First Friday Comedy Show. So after you're done weaving your way down Santa Fe on First Friday, take a load off and laugh.  

James Anderson Author Event at BookBar (7 p.m. Saturday, free)
Author James Anderson created his debut novel, The Never-Open Desert Diner, blending literary mystery and noir fiction in a story about a truck-driver on the verge of losing his company, finding love and an obsession with the road. Penning a novel is quite the accomplishment, so come shake hands with the dude and gain some insight into work and mind of the author at the BookBar tonight. 

Meownage Daydream at Mutiny Information Cafe (8 p.m. Saturday, $5)
Keep your 'lectric eye on Mutiny tonight, babe — it's a Ziggy Stardust party. Not from Mars, but still spacey WhiteCatPink hosts the night of glam along with the sounds of 9 Volt Fatale, Unit-Y and Drunkin' Relatives. Paint your face and stuff your bulge and get down to this show. If not, it's Rock 'n' Roll Suicide.

Mile High Soul Club at Syntax Physic Opera (9 p.m. Saturday, $10)
Really, this is one of the best events in the entire city. Once a month, DJ's Tyler Jacobson, Dogboy and Steve Cervantes spin the best soul sounds on that crackling vinyl, and they usually have some kind of trick up their sleeve. This month special guest DJ Fred Schneider of B-52's fame will be spinning too. Get ready to dance, because we're going to popcorn all night, baby.
