Friday Flash #6 at Denver Theater District (Friday, free) Social media has changed our society for better or worse, and it's accelerated the changes in art as a medium, too. Tonight's Flash Friday will attempt to be the first public display of an "anarchist" art movement, where people must show up to view which artists will be broadcast on the giant screens at 14th and Champa streets. For this edition, Digerati is taking art out of the galleries for a one-of-a-kind experience.World Soccer Celebration at Skyline Park (Friday-Sunday, free) The World Cup is an amazing thing when you think about it. Because of a game that dudes play with their feet, the entire world gathers around screens in villages, pubs and even downtown Denver, where matches will be broadcast for free public viewing on a giant, twenty-foot screen. And if you don't want to watch the game, Skyline Park will also host related events and activities. Enjoy world peace and camaraderie while it lasts.
Juneteenth at Five Points (Friday-Saturday, free) Juneteenth is a long-standing tradition here in Denver. The celebration dates back to 1865 -- it marks the day that slaves in Texas learned they were free -- but it still carries a powerful message today. Juneteenth strives to promote and showcase African-American culture, and Denver's activities will include a parade, pageants, kids' activities, concerts and much more. National Get Outdoors Day at City Park (Saturday, free) Get the kids outdoors today -- and get them to burn up some energy. This free event includes adventure courses, canoeing and rock-climbing, and encourages everyone -- not just kids -- to enjoy the great outdoors. Smokey the Bear will be on hand, too, in case you want to take a selfie.Brewgrass at Old South Pearl Street (Saturday, $5) Boulder isn't the only city with a cool Pearl Street. Southwest of Washington Park is the shopping district of Old South Pearl, where the businesses shut down a couple of blocks for festivals where the music and the craft beer flow. Brewgrass kicks off this summer's series of shows, and for only $5 you can hear seven bands fiddlin' and yodelin'. Some crazy dudes from Witchita known as Split Lip Rayfield will be headlining, and from the looks of it, they know how to spark a party. Keep reading for five more things to do in Denver this weekend. Up at Fairmont Cemetery (Saturday, free) The adorable film Up will be playing on an outdoor screen in a cemetery. Yes, a cemetery. Bring your family along with chairs and blankets to this event, which includes not just a free movie but free popcorn. It will be so much fun, it's scary!
SexCom at Blush & Blu (Saturday, $5-$10) Don't confuse this one with Comic Con, which is also going on this weekend. SexCom combines sex and comedy -- a close to perfect pairing. Local comedian and sex-ed teacher Debbie Scheer and sexologist Shanna Katz will answer your sexuality questions, with a whole lot of laughs along the way.
Clockette Nerdlesque: A Comic-Striptease at Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret (Saturday, $10) Everybody is a little different. Some people are attracted to supermodels and some people fantasize about superheroes. If you fall into the latter category, tonight is your night. The sexy burlesque ladies at Lannie's are putting on the capes and leotards tonight so that they can dance and shimmy them right back off. Even if you don't like superheroes, this should be a sexy good time.
Sara Gillespie w/ Roo & The Howl at Mercury Café (Saturday, $10) Sarah Gillespie is a very talented singer/ songwriter who comes all the way from London, where she has been described as Bob Dylan meets Joni Mitchell. Her streetwise lyrics respond well to her exceptional guitar playing. Take a listen and decide for yourself.
African American Theater Day at Su Teatro (Sunday, free) African-American theater has been a part of Denver culture for decades, but this will mark the first official celebration. The free event includes food, music and special presentations from local theater companies.
