Opening Fiesta for Dia de los Muertos at Longmont Museum (Friday, $5) This exhibit kicks off today with a photo show from Oaxaca, fiesta dancing and colorful carpets, called alfombras, made out of saw dust. The exhibit runs for over a month, and has many other special events attached to it. Morrison Ciderfest at Bear Creek Center (Saturday, free) What better way to welcome fall than with a crisp mug of cider. Morrison invites everybody out for a day of beer, cider, music and a slew of other activities. Bring your own paper bag of apples and a jug for Apple Annie to fresh press for you.
Hot Rize at Twist & Shout (Saturday, free) The legendary Colorado bluegrass band hasn't released a studio album in over 25 years. What better way to release their new album than at Denver's coolest record shop. The album technically doesn't come out until September 30, but you can pick it up here before anyone else. Shake hands with some of the best pickers and pluckers around.
Reykjavik Calling at 3 Kings Tavern (Saturday, free) Icelandic culture comes to Denver this weekend through many events, but this one is free. Musicians from Iceland will join local artists, including Tom Hagerman of DeVotchKa fame, for a cool collaboration concert. The Queerbots at Hamburger Mary's (Saturday, $10) Show up and shout out some topics for Denver's only LGBT Improv Troupe to turn into hilarity. From softball to musicals, this troupe can't wait to have you laughing and guessing what's next. Denver Record Collectors Expo at Ramada Plaza Hotel (Sunday, $2) For all the vinyl junkies, tape deckers and music lovers of all types, your back is sure to be sore after thumbing through the hidden treasures at this expo. At only $2, it's worth a browse; you won't be able to leave empty-handed.National Alpaca Farm Days at Douglas County Fairgrounds (Sunday, free) It's hard to look at an alpaca and not crack up. They're like the Carrot Top of the animal world. Aside from comedy, however, alpacas have a lot to offer the world. Come learn anything and everything there is to know about the furry creatures at this event today. Maybe one will hug you.
Propaganda! at Lannie's Clocktower Caberet (Sunday, free) This monthly comedy jam guarantees laughs, free pizza coupons and free Uber rides home. If that's not enough Ron Babcock will headline the show in addition to a bunch of new talent from Los Angeles and Austin. Don't forget to grab a free t-shirt to prove you were there.
