MIRRORS at Hinterland (Friday, free) Inspired by her Reiki practice and the writings of cognitive science professor Douglas Hofstadter, artist Gemma Bayly created a series of mandala drawings. She'll display these intricate, ethereal creations at an opening of her show tonight at Hinterland; the reception includes live music performances by offthesky and Pillow Garden.

Andy Fitch and Julie Carr: Pop Poetics and Ruptural Time: A Twin Talk at Counterpath (Friday, free) Counterpath keeps bringing in interesting poets in to discuss their work, and tonight's stellar lineup features Julie Carr and Andy Fitch, discussing pop poetics and ruptural time. The two poets are sure to get you thinking about the intricacies of the human language.

Casual at the Armoury (Saturday, free) Follow up Saturday's Rapids game with a britpop, glam and new wave dance party. Armoury, Denver's new soccer bar, will host DJs Tyler Jacobson and Jake Ryan as they spin hits during a post-game party; there will also be drink specials.

PANDA at RedLine (Saturday, free) A dozen Denver artists will join forces tonight for one evening of performance art: Performance Art Night Denver Aaaaaa. Watch for performers like Daniel Nilsson, Liz Greene and Justin Beard to do special, one-night-only acts.

Five Points Jazz Festival in Five Points (Saturday, free) Celebrate Denver's rich jazz history at this free festival. With lectures, a car show and dozens of great musical performances, you can spend the day celebrating the legacy of Five Points that continues today.

Highlands Ranch Music & Arts Festival at Civic Green Park (Saturday-Sunday, free) Enjoy the great outdoors while perusing the wares of art vendors and listening to live music at this Highlands Ranch festival. The two-day event will include performances by William and the Romantics and Sampson's Gulch Jazz Band, as well as many other food and summer fair attractions.

Free Day at the Stiles African American Heritage Center (Saturday, free) Learn about the history of Denver's early African-American residents when the Stiles African American Heritage Center opens its doors for free.

Icarus at the Denver Central Library (Sunday, free) The story of Icarus has been told, and retold, over the years. Now the man who dons wax wings and flies too close to the sun will come to life again today at the library, in a staged reading of Edwin Sanchez's adaptation of the time-honored tragic myth. Local actors will perform this version, which follows a disabled man whose sister dreams of him becoming the first person to touch the sun.

Volkswagons on the Green at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds (Sunday, free) The Jeffco fairgrounds will be devoted to bugs today -- and not the creepy-crawly kind. Come look at VW bugs and hang out with fellow beetle enthusiasts at this annual car show.

Hope, Thanks, and the Unforgiving Literary Series at the Dikeou Collection Pop-Up Space (Sunday, free) End your weekend at the wonderful Dikeou Collection Pop-Up Space with a night of spoken word. The free event will showcase three writers: Lily Herman, Phil Cordelli and Brian Kitely, reading poetry and parts of Kitely's novel in progress. It's sure to be way more interesting than Sunday night television.
