10 things to do for $10 this weekend, September 3-6, 2010

Some people will try and tell you that $10 won't get you much these days. To those people we cry foul, because every weekend in Denver there is more than enough to do for ten bucks and less. This weekend is a bonus: With Monday being a holiday, we get one extra day to spend some money -- and who's going to complain about that? To prove it, we've got a list after the break.

Gathering at the Great Divide Art Festival in Breckenridge (Friday-Monday) The Great Divide Art Festival has been a Colorado tradition for 35 years and features a three-day festival highlighting some of the best national and international artists around. If art is not your thing, then perhaps either the wine festival, rubber duck race or marathon is more in line with your idea of a good time. Taste of Colorado in Civic Center Park (Friday-Monday) This year marks the 26th annual Taste of Colorado, and if you somehow don't know what it entails, then prepare your stomach for Armageddon. For $10, you'll get yourself 16 food tickets, ensuring that you'll be able to taste and sample a wide variety of foods. If food isn't your thing, then perhaps checking out the Four Tops playing some classic Motown hits is. Celebration Metaphysical Fair at the Denver Merchandise Mart (Friday-Sunday) If you think that magic isn't something that's confined to Harry Potter novels, then the Celebration Metaphysical Fair is for you. With real-world wizards giving workshops and keynotes, it's sure to be a magical experience. The Crested Butte People's Fair (Saturday-Sunday) If anyone tries telling you there is nothing to do this weekend, then just take a look at how many festivals and fairs are going on. The Crested Butte People's Fair is no different; now in its 20th year, the fair is set to entertain with art, a book sale, music and food. Art openings (Friday) Hey it's First Friday -- which means you can hit up nearly any gallery in town for some free boozing and schmoozing. You've also got a wide range of strips to hit up, from the Santa Fe district to South Broadway to the West Side and more. We doubt you'll be able to buy anything with your measly $10, but that doesn't mean you can't appreciate some fine Denver art. Artcrank Denver 2010 at Lisa Kowalski Studio and Gallery (Saturday) If you find your ass on a bicycle saddle more often than in a car seat, then you should probably make it over to Artcrank -- a show highlighting cycling-inspired posters and art. It's not just about wall art either; a photo booth, fashion show and other mysterious things await you if you show up. Tour de Coops in Boulder (Saturday) If you're sick of just seeing where humans live, you might find solace in the Tour de Coops, where you'll take a tour of, you got it, chicken coops. You'll also see where bees and goats live, so even if chickens aren't your thing, you'll still learn something. It's all about connecting together a community of locals who are taking farming to the next level, so it shouldn't be too hard to network when you're chilling in a stranger's backyard. Mago-Gogo at Wazee Union (Saturday) If you've ever had a desire to see latex monsters fight in public with percussion-heavy music drilling in the background, then Mago-Gogo is for you. Part concert, part performance piece, the lineup will conceivably entertain no matter what your predispositions. If nothing else, you'll see lots of cool fake blood. Immundo Burlesque at Rackhouse Pub (Sunday) For whatever reason, burlesque is a big deal in this city -- so it should come as no surprise that an artist-driven collective has taken over the Rackhouse Pub this Sunday. It's set to be a night to remember, with burlesque, musicians, jugglers, drag performers and more. Just be sure to pick up your tickets in advance if you want to keep it under $10. Panties at the Bar at 3 Kings Tavern (Monday) What better way to end your three-day weekend than with a little burlesque show on South Broadway? If that doesn't get your juices going, then perhaps you'd like to show up in your panties to get some sweet drink specials. If nothing else, when you return to work on Tuesday, you'll have some great stories to tell.
