Makers & Doers at the Atomic Cowboy (Wednesday) Makers & Doers is a monthly gathering where local creative types can get together, meet new people and make valuable connections -- all while enjoying drinks and food. Tonight's networking party will feature happy-hour specials as well as complimentary appetizers, and a chance to win a two-night stay in Estes Park and other prizes. Go for the stimulating conversation, the free food and, above all, the opportunity to see what other artists, musicians and businesspeople are working on in Denver.

The Temporary Institute of Emancipated Objects at the Philip J. Steele Gallery (Thursday) Curator Cortney Lane Stell's first exhibition of the year at RMCAD is not to be missed. She's brought together artists from around the world to help examine the concept of art that incorporates objects from everyday life. The show opens tonight with a reception and panel discussion entitled "Beg, Borrow and Steal: Four Contemporary Views on Failure." Everything is free, but for guaranteed admission to the panel, be sure to RSVP online. National Western Stock Show Kick Off Parade at Starting at Union Station (Thursday) It's the time of year when you get to see a bizarre sight in Denver: over a hundred longhorn cattle marching down the street. The parade for the National Western Stock Show starts at Union Station and runs down 17th Street at noon today, it features cowboys, marching bands, floats and lots more. Dress in your best boots and hats, and help kick off the yearly show that celebrates all things Western.
