Halloween events have been going strong since the beginning of October, but even on the eve of All Hallow's Eve, there are plenty of non-spooky things to do and see. (Of course, we also have a round-up of the best adults-only Halloween parties, kid-friendly activities, corn mazes and zombie-affiliated things if you're still hunting down ghoulish parties.) From art openings to a little casual conversation about science, here are three cool events that won't cost you a dime. And for more activities around town, visit the online calendar.

Opening reception for Amber Cobb: The Dreamer's Dilemma at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (Tuesday, free) Join the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in celebrating the opening of its latest Present Box series, which uses space in its museum store for temporary exhibitions. This show features work by Amber Cobb, a multimedia artist who will be unveiling a new installation of light and color mimicking a dream-like state.

Space in Your Face!: Extraterrestrial Intelligence at The Deer Pile (Tuesday, free with a suggested $5 donation) Dr. Britney Schmidt brings an engaging presentation on Europa, the moon of Jupiter, to Deer Pile tonight. Extraterrestrial Intelligence is the focus and to celebrate, participants are invited to come in costume for a contest. As always with Deer Pile events, the night is free -- but donations are always accepted at the door.

Earth Moves: Shifts in Ceramic Art and Design at Arvada Center for the arts and Humanities (Daily) The Earth Moves: Shifts in Ceramic Art and Design exhibition is in full swing, but there's still plenty of time to catch the show before it closes in November. The exhibit combines pieces by artists using mainly ceramics, by 3-D printers and motion-based projections are also part of the show.
