Fusing history with illusion, the Wyoming-based Sinclair is transferring a show he first offered in Cheyenne to the streets of Denver by combining local stories about haunted places with magical illusions. Instead of just hunting for ghosts, Sinclair claims to bring them to life in this ninety-minute presentation.
Sinclair searched through local archives to make the show as historically accurate as possible, sharing darker stories of Denver's past and illustrating them with "hauntiques" -- artifacts of the past that some say still possess the ghosts of those who owned the objects.
"I wanted to do something that was wholly original that no magician had done before," he told the Wyoming News. "But I wanted to touch on something beyond 'This is a card trick.' You can hit upon some social issues. I think people have a natural curiosity about death. It's something that we all face. It's something we're all going to go through. This is a way for people to have an experience. To grasp that sense."
So is the Clocktower really haunted? Audiences will have to decide for themselves, separating illusion from fact as they interact with shades of the past in a seance-style presentation that features the ghosts of patrons of the old D&F department store. Highlights of the show include a haunted Victorian doll, the disembodied hand of a gypsy fortune teller that still tells people their fates, and the ghost of the Unsinkable Molly Brown.The show starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights in May with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets can be bought online or at the door for $15. (The tickets come with a warning that the show is not acceptable for people under the age of fourteen or who may have a heart condition or nervous disorder.)
