"Your job should be something you're pumped on," says Preston Strout, co-owner of the High Cascade Snowboard Camp. He's the guest moderator at The Business of Fun, a free event starting at 6 p.m. tonight that's the kick off for the three-day Launch of Winter celebration at Battery 621 (click those links to preregister on Facebook).

"Anybody currently unhappy with the job they're doing or unsure of what they should be doing with themselves should come tonight and be inspired by some of us who are living the dream," he says.

Living the dream, indeed: Tonight's panelists include freeski legend Chris Davenport, Pabst Blue Ribbon Lifestyle Marketing Manager Steve "Stix" Nilsen, CMH Heli-Skiing and Revelstoke Ski Area manager Steve Chambers, World Traveler PR Guru Kristin Rust, Team Pain Skateparks supervisor Chris Berry, and Jibberish Clothing co-owner Gabe Anderson. After listening to their tales, you can throw back some drinks in the name of networking with dozens of ski/snowboard/skateboarding/art industry insiders.

The Launch of Winter continues at 7 p.m. Friday with eXXXtreme First Friday, featuring art from the Public Works (presenter of tonight's event), an Emage Skate contest, a live music performance by Filthy Children, and the official unveiling of the 2011/2012 ski collection from Icelantic.

Missed the recent snow-porn premieres from Matchstick Productions, Sandbox, Level 1 Productions, Never Summer, Poor Boyz Productions, Capita and Warren Miller? Redeem yourself at 7 p.m. Saturday when Battery 621 will be screening them all on the big screen in the Spyder Showroom.

Battery 621 is at 621 Kalamath Street, and all of the Launch of Winter events are free, with free food and beverages -- including beer from the Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs (first come, first served).
