In celebration of the Denver-based company, which created nearly 200 jobs over the past three years, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has recognized May 21 as "Colorado Craftsy Day."

"Innovative technology companies like Craftsy are a huge part of why we're seeing a boost in the state's economy," Hickenlooper said in announcing the recognition. "Craftsy has brought new jobs to our state, with plans for continued local growth, just as Colorado keeps growing as a burgeoning tech hub that supports creative entrepreneurship."

Craftsy is one of a long line of recent hometown firms that offer unique services and stimulate job growth in "the idea economy," Mayor Michael Hancock said in a release honoring the company.

Craftsy.com offers online classes in sewing, gardening, photography and other craft projects; it also serves as a forum for what it dubs "passionate makers" to communicate and share their ideas and creations.

"Colorado is a great place to start a business, and we can't imagine having built Craftsy anywhere else," said John Levisay, Craftsy CEO and co-founder. "We're proud to be celebrating our third birthday and excited to give back to our home state by offering Coloradans a chance to enroll in a class fro free on Colorado Craftsy Day."

Craftsy is offering one free class to every Colorado resident who visits its website on May 21.
