The Red Card Party is a wilder take on a seeding party -- the traditional announcement of team ranking and bracket positions for the nonprofit's 15th annual Last Dig tournament. Volleyball teams from around the nation come to Denver April 14 and 15 to compete at Baladium Sports Center Stapleton and DU's Gates Field House.
Hosted by Ms. Queen of Aces 2011 Daniella DeCoteau, The Red Card Party will feature drag performances, a live music from DJ Tate and an underwear, fetish and leather fashion show put on by Justice Talent Agency. List promises that, as always, the Queens of Aces will offer up more than the usual lip-sync routine -- past and present crown winners will open the night with humorous homage to "It's Raining Men" from Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the musical.
List says the point of the party is to bring a little fun to the usual tournament announcements, and give players a chance to relax before another big day of play. Plus, it's a great introduction for the tournament's out of town guests -- "We have all of these cute boys from out of town and we want to show them how great Denver is," jokes List.
The party starts at 8 p.m., and each person who walks through the door gets a red card. At the end of the night, attendees are encouraged to give their "violation" to a performer of their choice. "We don't have a real title for the performer who gets the most violations," says List. "But it's just for the sake of fun."
