Because I'm married to a guitarist, I can truly appreciate the mysterious attraction a mountain festival like Copper's Guitar Town exercises upon a certain ilk: I understand how dedicated strummers everywhere all begin to salivate whenever they hear about a weekend where they can not only drink up free concerts by the likes of Richard Thompson, John Jorgenson, Sonny Landreth and Kaki King, but they can also sign up for guitar workshops with the pros, take the kids skateboarding at the Woodward at Copper Cage or accompany the wifey to the Mountain Home and Outdoor Expo.

Something for everyone, sure, and that includes musical art lovers, who will have a chance to bid on ArtGuitars, instruments donated by Guitar Center and decorated by a slew of Colorado artists. The guitars will be on display throughout the Village at Copper this Saturday and Sunday, but here's a sneak preview before they travel Rocky Mountain high. And for a closeup, you can also check them out through Thursday at the Guitar Center Denver, 1585 S. Colorado Boulevard.

Artist (and Westword Mastermind) Eric Matelski, who organized the ArtGuitar project for Copper, decorated his guitar with a Patsy Cline motif: "I used a photo transfer, and the hardest part was deciding what fits Patsy best, in terms of her music and words," he says. I used "Crazy" and her hair is made up for "Walking After Midnight" and the neckerchief is "You Belong To Me."
