The Denver Public Library and The Fabric Lab have embarked on a cool new event: Frock Out Denver. As part of the library's Fresh City Life program, they're trying to bring our local designers to greater heights of attention. How are they doing this, you ask? Well, here are the details:

Designers interested in participating must schedule an interview with the jury panel on Thursday, August 30 or Friday, August 31. Portfolio reviews will be held at The Central Library. To schedule an interview for jury selection, call 720-865-1205 or email [email protected]. Plan to bring your portfolio and three sample pieces.

Those selected will then be asked to design five outfits, the first of which is designer's choice and is due on Monday, October 22. Those pieces will be displayed from November 5 to December 5 in the Central Library's Schlessman Hall. That's some serious exposure.

Then, the other four challenge pieces must be completed and ready for runway rehearsal on Monday, December 3.

Then on Thursday, December 6, designers will participate in Frock Out Denver: Independent Designers Challenge Runway Show from 8 - 9 p.m. followed by an invitation-only VIP reception at 9 p.m.

This is such a great opportunity to get our local talent in front of local buyers with money. Because let's face it, the designers need more support than we can all give with scraped together beer money.

But beyond that, the winning designer will receive a grand prize package worth $2,000, which Cat is told "includes a $500 cash prize and glamorous gifts valued at $1,500." The winning designer and model will also receive a spread in an upcoming issue of Fabricate – Brandi Shigley's new magazine about local fashion design.

So that's the 411.
