"One of the beautiful things about ’80s metal songs is that they have all this passion to them, but if you look at them from a musical standpoint, they're very simple four- or five-chord progressions," explains Stohlman. "We take all that heart and passion, but we take the musical composition and we make it complex, we make it rich."
The result is a show that combines the elegance of lounge with the sing-along prowess of ’80s metal as Stohlman belts out songs from Billy Idol's "White Wedding" to Metallica's "Enter Sandman." And while Kinky Mink started out as a cover act, the band now performs original songs as well, including the one the show is named after, a BDSM Christmas tune called "Tie Me Up for Christmas."
Hear the group's sultry tunes, along with an appearance by naughty Saint Nick, tonight at 9:30 p.m. at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street; tickets, $5, are available at the door. For more information, visit www.kinkymink.com.
