PlatteForum has some big news to share with you. Problem is, the folks behind the Central Platte Valley nonprofit that pairs artist mentors with at-risk youth in collaboration with partnering youth programs can't talk about it. Not yet. Let's just say it involves a major honor, some money and even a touch of celebrity. But like PlatteForum, our lips are sealed, at least a little bit longer, even though the news is awesome, and we -- and PlatteForum -- are beside ourselves with excitement. Yes, it's really that big.

We have probably already broken some kind of rule, but you'll have to get the whole story from the horse's mouth....Between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., the news will be announced at a celebration at the PlatteForum Gallery. If you can't make it there, return to Show and Tell tomorrow and we'll divulge all. Don't you love secrets?

In the meantime, here's some stuff PlatteForum is collecting for its latest artist mentor, fiber artist/quilter Abigail Kokai, whose residency started Monday. Kokai will be teaching students from the I Have A Dream Foundation how to quilt, and use the technique to tell personal stories. A project that big requires a lot of materials:

-Fabric pieces and scraps -Sheets for use as fabric -Notions, including buttons, beads, etc. -Thread: embroidery floss or spool thread for hand sewing -Sewing needles -Hot glue gun and glue sticks -Painting supplies: acrylic paints, small brushes -Iron/ironing board -Iron-on fabric adhesive (Heat'n'Bond/Wonder-Under) -A full size mattress in good condition (really!)

Bring a donation of any of those materials with you this afternoon, or e-mail director Judy Anderson or call 303-893-0791. And when Kokai and her students are finished, see their work at the exhibition, which opens on December 15.
