A year after he opened the 1UP arcade/bar in LoDo, business was so good that Jourdan Adler took over the former Monkey Bar on East Colfax and turned it into the 2UP. Inspired by the "barcade" trend, Jesse Gossett and Mike Boselli recently took over the former Round Midnight -- which closed after a three-decade run at 1005 Pearl Street in Boulder -- and rehabbed it in a week and a half, doing most of the construction themselves. Earlier this month, it opened as Press Play.

Born and raised in Boulder, Gossett says that he and Boselli both went to Round Midnight in their twenties, and that the underground space reminded them of the Pinball Palace, the subterranean arcade that used to be a few blocks east on the Pearl Street Mall.

Now they've partnered with a man at Mile High Arcade and Vending who'll be bringing in new games every day, since he's constantly working on games and fixing them.

Gossett, who was a co-owner of the Loft (once Muddy's Coffeehouse and now NORAD), says Press Play will continue to be a dance club three nights a week, with DJ Bedz spinning on Fridays and DJ Low Key spinning on Thursdays and Saturdays. In homage to Round Midnight, they'll play old-school hip-hop during the day and the DJs will be spinning hip-hop at night as well. During the week, Gossett says he'd like Press Play to have more of a bar feel, but he and Boselli are also also kicking around putting ping-pong tables on the dance floor or possibly having Bar Olympics, a big hit at the Loft.
