If watching the Tour de France last month had you longing to see a bike race in the flesh, you won’t want to miss the Denver leg of the USA Pro Challenge. “This is one of the top five cycling events in the world, and the largest private event in the U.S.,” notes Pro Challenge CEO Shawn Hunter. “There are lots of places to watch along the course, and we have a festival at the finish of each stage coming all the way down to Denver.”

Although the official race with the world-class athletes doesn’t start until August 18 in Aspen/Snowmass, today’s USA Pro Challenge Experience race in Larimer County should start the wheels turning. And you don’t need to limit yourself to watching: You can ride yourself.

There are three race options — a 25-mile, 50-mile or 100-mile ride — plus a Champions Challenge featuring three teams of thirty riders, each captained by a national champion cyclist. The festivities start at 7 a.m. at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, and a post-event festival will take place after the race is complete.
