Ten Things to Do in Denver for $10 or Less (Seven Free), July 29-31

This is one of the busiest weekends of the year, with festivals all over town and in the foothills celebrating different cultures, activities and obsession. Here are ten favorites that won't set you back more than ten bucks each (and seven are absolutely free!); check the Westword calendar for even more entertainment options.
Denver County Fair
National Western Complex 
4 p.m. Friday through Sunday, $10
The sixth annual Denver County Fair takes over the National Western Complex this weekend; it's a must-attend event every year. The 2016 edition promises hogs with talents, live Star Wars paintings, Minions for the kids, Pokemon for the adults, drag queen pageants and so so much more. German Festival Denver
Heritage Amusement Park
4 p.m. Friday through Sunday, $7
Although the big German celebrations come in October, there's no reason not to enjoy some beer and pretzels now. You can also jig to German polka or brass jams, enjoy a wiener schnitzel and browse through the vendors. Get the full scoop here. 

Sexpot Comedy Presents The Nerd Roast: Nicktoons

The comedy nerds are back to celebrate those Nickelodeon cartoons we grew up with. Come see your favorite local comedians dress like Ren and Stimpy, Doug Funnie, Catdog and the rest of the gang as they roast each other. We can only wonder how weird it's going to get between Doug and Patti Mayonnaise. 

Titwrench Presents: Surfacing

8 p.m. Friday, $10
The Titwrench Collective throws some of the best art parties out there, and tonight will present a musical and visual exhibition. Enjoy the double-trouble punk sounds of Dagger Dagger and the Brooklyn freak folk of Thelma. Transcend with the futuristic and airy sounds of Pearls and Perelz, as well as some fun punk out of Tucson, Shooda Shook It.  
Wellness Fest
Sports Authority Field at Mile High
9 a.m. Saturday, free
Wellness is not only good for your mind and body, but for the whole community as well. The folks behind Im’Unique aim to get the city together for a little yoga, Tai chi, dancing and African drumming. And after we exercise the body, we all get to enjoy a meal followed by community discussion that stretches the mind — all on the turf where the Broncos play. Get more info and register here.

Despite being located in the middle of the country, Colorado has one of the highest rates of certified scuba divers in the U.S. See what all the fuss is about at the aquarium, where you can learn to dive in a pool set up outside the main entrance. Ready to take the plunge?
Dragon Boat Festival
Sloan's Lake Park

Travel a mile west of downtown and be transported to Asia. The Dragon Boat Festival gives us plenty to celebrate every year, including the dragon boat races, a dumpling-eating contest, a scavenger hunt and the chance to meet anime voice actor David Vincent. Frida Kahlo Celebration of Life Art Show

Celebrate the life of Frida Kahlo with this new food cooperative. Display your Khalo inspired art for a $5 registration fee, join the costume contest, learn Aztec dance, get your face painted and much more. Stick around for a screening of a film about her life. 

Peruvian Festival Denver

9 a.m. Sunday, free
You might not know it, but the potato came from Peru. At the Peruvian Festival Denver, you can thank organizers for very American things like french fries and potato chips, then experience more authentic styles of Peruvian dance, music and food as you celebrate Peru's Independence Day.


Propaganda! Four Year anniversary Party with Ron Babcock

Wrap up your weekend at the most hilarious free event in town. The comedy by Ron Babcock,  Nathan Lund, Mallory Wallace, David Rodriguez and Jacob Rupp is free, the parking is free and there are usually free goodies to take home. Laugh freely before you have to return to work.
