Samuel D. Hunter's The Whale, which began as a reading at the Denver Center's New Play Summit in 2011, and was given a world premiere by the company this year -- to glowing reviews (here's mine) -- has been selected by Playwrights Horizons in New York, a theater dedicated to the work of new playwrights, as part of that company's upcoming season.

"I'm obviously overjoyed that it's making its way to New York," says Hunter, "and so happy the Denver Center gave me such a fantastic world premiere. It allowed me to see what the play was in production, so that now we can build on that.

"Playwrights Horizons--if I could name one theater I'd like to work at, that'd be it. It's really humbling and overwhelming," he says.

The Denver run has been extended; you can see The Whale here until February 25. For ticket information, call 893-4100 or go to www.denvercenter.org.
