This Weekend in Stoke: Top 5 Father's Day festivities

Snow's out for the summer! Today is opening day at the Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park, where a $65 all-day pass ($32 for kids) buys unlimited access to the Gold Runner Coaster, SuperSlide, SuperPutt, Mountain Bike Park, Colorado SuperChair, Rockpile Climbing Wall, Mineshaft Maze, SuperBungee Trampoline, Gemstone Panning, and Ripperoo's Bounce House. It's also Summer Lift Off day at Copper Mountain, but if your dad's refusing to accept the onslaught of summer then take him to Arapahoe Basin instead, where they're still getting their shred on with 62 inches of slushy stuff at mid-mountain: His $39 lift ticket will allow him to ogle bikini babes on the Beach at the base and take a refreshing dip in Lake Reveal, where Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth reports he's been finding lost skis, sunglasses, and bits of those bikini babes' discarded clothing.

This is your weekend: Try the Triple DHip Downhill Mountain Biking Pro/Am Challenge at SolVista or hit opening day at Winter Park's Trestle Bike Park (our 2011 Best of Denver pick for Best Mountain Bike Park). When it snows it flows! Remember that record season snowfall we just had up in them 'thar hills? Recent temperatures in the 90s have it melting in a hurry, just in time for Salida's 63rd annual FIBArk Whitewater Festival ("America's Oldest and Boldest") this weekend, where serious competitions share the spotlight with serious silliness like the Hooligan Race on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. -- build a boat with your dad (advance registration is $30 per team) but beware of beheadings under the F Street Bridge: The water this year is really, really high.

The emperor's new shoes! Let dad test out his fresh new Father's Day kicks at one of a dozen local races happening this weekend, like the La Sportiva Summer Solstice Twilight Trail Run 5K/10K on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Beaver Creek. What's that? You forgot to buy the poor guy a new pair of running shoes this year? Try the Merrell Naked Foot 5K at Boulder Reservoir on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., part of the "first ever national Barefoot Race Series" ($35, and bring a spare pair of shoes to donate to Soles4Souls). "Real Men Play With Dolls!" The Denver Roller Dolls do love their dads: Sunday's special 2 p.m. matinee bout at the 1st Bank Center ($15) in Broomfield features fabulous prizes for fathers and (as always) kids 12 and under are free. The bout is a double-header pitting DRD teams Green Barrettes vs. Electrocuties and Shotgun Betties vs. Bad Apples.
