Dirty Heads and Bikini Trill

In the future, all band names will just be slight variations on other musician’s names. Just ask Austin shoegaze band Ringo Deathstarr. Or Bikini Trill, the Los Angeles-based trio that skews closer to No Doubt than the justifiably-mad-as-hell Riot Grrrl punk of its semi-namesake. But, hey, with Lana Del Rey releasing a Sublime cover way better than it has any right to be, it would seem the time is now for funky, skanky, surfy ’90s-rock revivalism. Bikini Trill released debut EP Wassup, We Good? last year, embracing island sleaze and slacker mentality; the buoyant “Smoke a Jay and Watch Yourself Dance” sounds like a stoned summer afternoon in Venice Beach. There are worse ways to spend your time.
