There are earworms, and then there’s “Don’t Feel Like Crying,” the ultra-bright dance-yourself-clean anthem so sugary it might just redefine the term “ear candy.” The woman behind it? Sigrid, a 23-year-old songwriter raised in a Norwegian seaport town who came out of nowhere with her 2017 debut EP, Don’t Kill My Vibe. The full-length Sucker Punch followed earlier this year, showcasing her panache for shiny, ’80s-inspired dance anthems — “Mine Right Now” is a contemporary update on Cyndi Lauper — and shimmering electro-pop held together by thick hip-hop beats; the title track is one such example, and it’s destined for a rom-com soundtrack. We don’t know what it is about the Nordic states producing songwriters capable of writing irresistible pop hooks, but Sigrid is no exception to the rule.
