The original Virgilio's opened in Lakewood in 2005, and became so popular that owner and pizza master Virgilio Urbano opened a second location in an old Johnny Carino's in the summer of 2010. Although the Lakewood store has closed, this Virgilio’s in Littleton is going very, very strong. The behemoth, 6,400-square-foot space features an exhibition kitchen, cherry-red booths, a huge wine cabinet, a long back-lit bar complete with a 32-bottle Enomatic wine system imported from Italy, private rooms (one bedecked with a fireplace and walls patched with faux-Italian artwork), Sinatra pics and black-and-white photos from Urbano's family album. The entire effect is reminiscent of a red-sauce Italian joint. And you’ll find the menu loaded with classics, including pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, salads and cheeses (housemade burrata and mozzarella), as well as a seven-hour long happy hour that features very generous pours.
