The crew from Mile High Sci Fi - the off-the-wall movie-watching comedy show -- has never been shy about beer: "We sell it right there in the theater," says member Matt Vogl. "Sometimes we even have a red wagon that we pull up the aisle, vendor-style."
And on Saturday, they'll take their show, which is usually held at the Starz Filmcenter on the Auraria campus, to one of the heart's of Colorado's blessed beer world: the Tasty Weasel tap house located inside the Oskar Blues brewery in Longmont.
"For the most part, we've stayed put in Denver, but the brewery up there is such a cool space," Vogl says. "It could totally backfire on us and suck. But then we will just give people lots of beer and get tanked. That's our backup plan."
For those who don't know, Mile High Sci Fi involves watching a movie, typically a classic science fiction movie, cheesy period piece or other disaster put to film, while a group of comedians makes jokes about it, a la Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Red Dawn will be the target on Saturday, April 17, beginning on 7:30 p.m. when the Mile Hi Sci Fi guys take on the '80s classic, which starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Gray, and a bunch of Russians and Cubans. And although the movie wasn't actually filmed in Colorado, it is supposed to take place here.
On tap: Dale's Pale Ale, Old Chub, Gubna, Mama's Little Yella Pils, Gordon and a couple of draft-only concoctions from Oskar Blues.
