Raise the Roof Dance Party Will Benefit Denver's Homeless

Some of the most worthwhile events in Denver happen when the music community comes together and rallies around a social cause. What cause is more pressing right now than homelessness in Denver? Over the past year individuals experiencing homelessness had their tiny houses torn down in Sustainability Park, had possessions thrown out by police, urged city council to repeal the urban camping ban, and battled for a space to gather on "Stoner Hill."

This Friday night at 9 p.m. at the DIY warehouse venue GLOB, local musicians plan to "Raise the Roof" at a dance party to benefit the organization Denver Homeless Out Loud. The event will feature Denver dance musicians Thug Entrancer, COPCIRCLES, Drvg1 D13Nvsty, with vinyl sets by DJ BUSSINESS ACCUMEN and DJ POUSSEZ.

One of the organizers, Laura Conway, says that she, along with organizer Luke Leavitt, came up with the idea in order to form a coalition between the RiNo arts district and Denver's activist communities. 

"It seems like a cool way to get people into social justice, as well as art and the DIY scene at the same time," Conway says. 

Denver Homeless Out Loud was selected as a beneficiary of the dance party because the organizers believe DHOL is doing some of the most important work around homelessness in Denver, including its plans of reintroducing the Right to Rest Bill at the state Capitol in 2016. 

Conway says that DHOL will have a table set up at the event for those interested in learning more about homelessness.
