Sara Thurston (aka DJ Sara T.) is in town from Los Angeles this weekend for another edition of Danceotron -- her "No Bullshit" dance party, now in its eighth year -- and she's also hard at work editing footage of Lust-Cats of the Gutters' "Nothing Cool Happens on Dates" video, which was filmed yesterday.

Thurston approached friends Lust-Cats after hearing the track, and along with local filmmaker Ryan Demers (the man behind kickball documentary Battle For The Boot) took over Tom's Diner to capture the duo's unique personalities.

A longtime video director and editor, Thurston says she's careful about the projects she takes on. "I only work on shoots I'm invested in and passionate about," Thurston says. "I was excited about 'Nothing Cool Happens on Dates,' and I asked Lust-Cats to trust me to just shoot it, and they did."

The Lust-Cats have also seen a positive push from the music world outside of the local scene, with legendary rock critic Everett True comparing the group's sound to Beat Happening and the Raincoats in a recent issue of Bust Magazine.

Thurston also had a hand in Lust-Cats' getting the attention of idol Courtney Love, all through the simple graces of Twitter. "I retweeted their music, and at the time, Courtney was following me and she retweeted it. It was that simple," Thurston says, adding "She's [Love] not so removed from music, and still knows what people need to hear and what women need to be doing."

If you missed Thurston's appearance at Wednesday's Surfacing showcase at the Mercury Cafe, be sure to check out Danceotron, her positive party institution happening this Saturday, October 23 at the Hi-Dive.
