Ran into Tim Pourbaix very briefly last night. When we ducked out for a quick smoke in front of the Sputnik, he informed me that his new record is nearly finished as is the Park-Pourbaix project he's been working on with Ellison Park. No word on when the latter will be released, but the former, which Pourbaix promises features his best work to date, is slated to be issued in June at the Larimer Lounge. That's the good news. The bad news is that the former Killfix frontman will have to fly in for that gig, as by then, he'll be receiving his mail in Brooklyn. The move, of course, is predicated by a young lass that has captured the young Mr. Pourbaix's heart (natch). Fortunately, he'll be in good company out there, joining one Gann Matthews and Timothy Thomas Cleary, who have already established themselves in that part of the country. (Thanks, Brooklyn and Portland, for wooing away all our good ones.) And although he won't be hanging his hat here anymore, Pourbaix does have deep roots here ("I can't stand to be away from my family for very long," he confided) and says he plans to be back frequently.
