Seven-piece outfit Fitz & The Tantrums (playing tonight at the Bluebird Theater with Ximena) is all about the soul revival, for sure. But band leader Michael Fitzpatrick brings just the slightest hint of Tom Jones-inspired campiness to the group's cool vintage sound, which works well with co-vocalist Noelle Scaggs' sweet harmonies.

A veteran of the back-end of the music industry, Fitzpatrick's path as a performer began a few years ago after a chance meeting with a church organ gave him the vehicle to bring his voice to the front. Though 2010's Pickin' Up The Pieces was only the band's second record, the saxaphone-driven style Fitz & Tantrums has created carries the weight of a group strong enough to outlive the retro trend. This show is eighteen and up, and tickets are $15.50-18. Doors open at 8 p.m., and performances begin at 9 p.m.
