Sharon Jones (performing this evening with her band, The Dap Kings, at the Denver Botanic Gardens) is a soul revivalist, whether she intended to be or not. The Brooklynite was a session singer in the '70s, but it wasn't until the late '90s that Jones was finally given the chance to showcase her voice as a solo artist. In 2002, Jones paired with the Dap-Kings, a group of musicians that built the perfect platform for her rough hewn but golden voice.

Since this union, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have released four records, including last year's I Learned The Hard Way, on neo-soul label DapTone Records. Along with the music, Jones brings a realness to her live audience as a relatable everywoman -- a former blue collar worker with a gorgeous voice and a story to tell. This show is all ages, and tickets are $50-55. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.
