Brad Evans has made plenty of news in Denver of late thanks to his campaign against fugly new buildings in Denver and his opposition to the I-70 project, also known as "Ditch the Ditch."

But that doesn't mean he's neglecting one of his most notable creations: the Denver Cruiser Ride, which has become a summertime tradition in the Mile High City.

The rides attract thousands of pedal-pushers on Wednesday nights from mid-May through the end of September, in part because of the lighthearted themes that turn the events into mobile costume parties.

The DCR website notes that "each year we spend the winter agonizing over a list that goes well into the 100s in order to come up with this final list of 20. Why are the themes such a big deal? Why should you even bother to dress up? First and foremost, these themes add another dimension to Wednesday nights in Denver. The more people that let their hair down, the more fun it seems to be. With that said, we encourage EVERYONE to dress up, and guilt trip those that don't."

As for this year's themes, "some...are SELF EVIDENT," the DCR site continues, "and others are designed specifically to create a mash up that allows participants to interpret the theme and come up with their own creative solutions."

The themes aren't all that's new. There's also a freshly minted Denver Cruiser Ride membership program; click here for more details.

In the meantime, here are this year's themes, beginning on May 18 and ending on September 28, illustrated with screen captures from a video about the new membership program that's on view at the end of the post.
