In recent weeks, we've shared two reports about shootings related to marijuana robberies.
The first involved Jason Mesaros, who was shot ten times by police following a heist at a home grow that involved gun play and an attack on the residence's owner.
The second pertained to Athina Munoz, just busted in a fatal accident that killed two motorcyclists. Turns out Munoz had previously shot a pair of men to death during an apparent robbery attempt at her illegal home grow. Prosecutors deemed her actions in the first incident justified.
Now comes what may be a third example of this unfortunate phenomenon. A man was shot multiple times at a home grow in Westminster, and the suspects remain on the loose at this writing.
About 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, according to the Westminster Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 7000 block of Canosa Court.
The report: a possible shooting.
Upon their arrival, the cops discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. CBS4 reports that one of the bullets struck him in the head.
The cops were subsequently told that two African American men had entered the home packing heat, and after a struggle, gunfire rang out.
The station adds that the victim had moved into the residence, a rental property, about a month earlier. He was growing between thirty and fifty marijuana plants there — and investigators are working to determine if cannabis provided the motive for the shooting.
Thus far, there have been no arrests in the case.
If you have any information about what went down, you're encouraged to contact the Westminster Police Department at 303-658-4360 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). MDCS is offering a reward of up to $2,000 in the case.
