Groups hoping to organize marches during the Democratic National Convention got a better idea today of what route they’ll be allowed to take.

The Mayor’s office has released what will be the only designated parade route through the city from August 25 to 28. Marches will only be allowed to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting off from Civic Center Park, progressing west on Colfax and then turning north on Speer Boulevard toward the Pepsi Center. But for now, the route only leads up to Speer and Larimer Street. After that, nobody knows.

A press release says the route will stop “within walking distance” of the public demonstration zone being set up in a parking lot behind the Pepsi Center, but further details “are still being finalized and will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Last month, the ACLU filed a suit against the city and the federal government, claiming that the lack of a clear route was preventing organizers from planning demonstrations. So far, four groups have applied to hold parades during the convention, but more could apply to fill other slots, says mayoral spokeswoman Sue Cobb. As of yet, details of the security perimeter have not been released to the public. –Jared Jacang Maher
