Seldom has a single line in a police report summed up the entire document as does a quote attributed to Clifford Garel in the probable cause statement below: "I beat the shit out of my mom."

Said mother is 84 years old, by the way. And Garel doesn't appear to have treated his 83-year-old dad much better.

According to the Denver Police Department item, Garel's abuse of his elderly parents took place over a three-day period earlier this month. Over that span, he allegedly pushed, punched and struck his mom, in addition to twisting her legs so hard that the tissue actually twisted open and hung loosely from her calf.

The woman also had bruises all over her body, including a black right eye. In addition, Garel is said to have pushed his father when he tried to defend his wife.

The couple was unable to call for help, the report maintains, because Garel, who's 61, posted himself outside the door of their bedroom, not allowing them to eat or move around freely. If they tried to escape, he's accused of physically restraining them.

Finally, after 72 hours or so, one of the pair was able to gain access to a cordless phone and contact police. The statement doesn't include any information about what started this stand off, and explanations for Garel's actions are nowhere to be found, leaving the words "I beat the shit out of my mom" to stand on their own.

Garel is due in court at 9:30 a.m. today for his second advisement, and the crimes of which he's been accused are appropriately severe -- a criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, plus second- and third-degree assault on an at-risk adult.

Friday the 13th is supposed to be horrifying, but the date likely comes as a relief to Garel's parents. Here's a larger look at his booking photo, followed by the aforementioned police report.
